The Cranbrook and Railway Historical Archives and Reference Library is located on the upper floor at the museum. Since December of 1996, a computerized index of the holdings has been available. These include historical material in the form of books, photographs, maps, files and objects, etc., about early Cranbrook and the railway, including all early Cranbrook newspapers from 1898 to 1973.
The Archives and Reference Libary is open whenever the Canadian Museum of Rail Travel is open. Appointments are required due to small space and limited staff time. Phone ahead (250-489-3918) and ask for a supervisor.
